Volvo FH4 2012 & FH5 2022 v1.0 ETS2
The Volvo FH series has seen considerable progress over the years, with the 2012 (FH4) and 2022 (FH5) models exemplifying two pivotal eras. Though they share a common purpose as long-distance trucks, the FH5 enhances the HF4’s foundation, emphasizing advanced technology, safety, and comfort for drivers.
Key Differences Between FH4 (2012) and FH5 (2022)
Significant changes can be observed in the cabin, safety mechanisms, and overall aerodynamic designs.
Design and Aerodynamics
FH4: The 2012 FH4 marked a major redesign, introducing a sleek, modern aesthetic compared to its predecessors, concentrating on improved visibility and comfort for drivers with an innovative cab design.
FH5: The 2022 FH5 advances this with an even more streamlined design. Its front grille is flatter, and there are minimized gaps between panels to cut down on air resistance, which enhances fuel efficiency.
Interior and Technology
FH4: The FH4’s interior represented a considerable upgrade, showcasing an ergonomic dashboard and a multifunctional steering wheel designed for comfort during extensive driving hours.
FH5: The FH5 features a complete overhaul with a fully digital driver interface. The dashboard now sports a modern, customizable digital display for clearer information presentation, and the gear lever design has been improved for better ergonomics.
Safety Features
One of the most critical areas of progress, as safety regulations tightened since 2012.
FH4: The 2012 model included advanced braking systems, traction control, and electronic stability programs.
FH5: The 2022 FH5 is outfitted with numerous new safety features mandated for new vehicles in 2022, including Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Reversing Protection, and Driver Alert System (DAS). It utilizes multiple cameras and radars to monitor the presence of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, thereby bolstering safety for both the driver and those nearby.
Engines and Powertrain
Each generation presents a range of robust and fuel-efficient engines, primarily derived from the Volvo D13 and D16 series, offering various horsepower options. Both models utilize the I-Shift automated transmission. However, the FH5 includes further optimizations to the powertrain for enhanced fuel economy and performance, adopting I-Save technology with turbo-compound engines for improved efficiency.
