Iveco Eurotech e Stralis HD 1999-2006 1.54 ETS2
IVECO Eurotech (1999 – 2006)
Iveco started its operations in Brazil in September 1997, establishing a dedicated network of dealerships and technical support for selling vehicles imported from Europe and Argentina. EMA Arquitetura, based in São Paulo, was tasked with tailoring the brand’s global standards to create a “Brazilian Network.”
The EuroTech was a significant success, becoming the first nationalized model with a towing capacity of 60 to 80 tons (4×2 and 6×2), featuring around 63% of locally sourced components, including the robust 13.8-liter, 370 hp engine.
Its spacious cabin, derived from the EuroCargo, included a notable tiltable feature, providing enhanced comfort. The EuroTech featured the well-regarded Fiat 8210 engine, tuned to deliver 370 hp and 1,720 Nm from its 14 liters, aided by turbocharging and an intercooler.
In the mid-2000s, the heavy-duty line was bolstered with the introduction of the EuroTech 6×4 model, the 740 E 42TZ, showcasing the most powerful Fiat 8210 engine in Brazil, producing 420 hp. This model specifically addressed the demand for double trailers, road trains, and similar vehicles with a gross weight capacity of up to 74 tons.
By 2004, the EuroTech was phased out to pave the way for the Stralis HD, which was initially imported from Argentina.
IVECO Stralis HD (2004 – 2006)
The Stralis HD entered the Brazilian market in October 2003 as part of the 2004 lineup, available solely in 4×2 configurations named 450S38T and 450S42T. It featured a 16-speed manual transmission and introduced a new engine, the inline six-cylinder Cursor 13, replacing the older Fiat 8210 found in the EuroTech.
In October 2005, with the introduction of the 2006 Stralis line, Iveco took advantage of anti-pollution regulations to nationalize the Stralis, which now included 6×2 (570) and 6×4 (740) options. The engines remained consistent, using the same engines and transmission initially imported from France, as seen with the Argentine variant. The rest of the specifications remained unchanged.
The new 570 and 740 versions were subsequently designated as HD (Heavy Duty). By October 2006, the Cursor 13 engine began local production in Brazil as part of the 2007 lineup, while the new generation Stralis debuted in October 2007 with the 2008 lineup.
