MB 1620 v1.0 1.54 ETS2

The Mercedes-Benz L 1620 is a true icon on Brazilian highways. This semi-heavy truck has earned its legendary status due to its durability, reliability, simple mechanics, and excellent cost-effectiveness. Although production officially ceased in 2011, the demand for this model remains high in the used truck market across Brazil.

Here are the key aspects that contribute to the popularity of the MB 1620:
Key Features and Design:
Robust Build: Designed to endure the tough conditions on Brazilian roads, the 1620’s chassis and components are known for lasting durability.
Simple Mechanics: Its straightforward mechanical design was a major selling point, making maintenance and repairs easier, even in remote areas, thereby reducing operating costs—a favored choice among independent truck drivers.
Versatility: The 1620 found applications in various fields, including:
– Carroceria aberta (flatbed/stake bed): For general cargo.
– Baú (dry van): For safeguarding cargo.
– Caçamba (dump truck): For construction and agricultural materials.
– Tanque (tanker): For transporting liquids.
– Guincho (tow truck): For vehicle recovery.
It was available in several axle configurations, most commonly as a truck (6×2) with a third axle, and also as a toco (4×2).
Driver’s Cabin: While not as luxurious as today’s models, the cabin of the 1620 was functional and provided an efficient working environment for drivers.

Engine and Performance:
Mercedes-Benz OM 366 LA Engine: This engine served as the heart of the 1620’s success. It’s a 6-cylinder in-line turbocooler diesel engine. Variations in power output were introduced over time to comply with evolving emissions standards (Proconve).
Earlier models produced around 204 hp (like the OM 366 A turbo).
Later versions, particularly the “Eletrônico” (Electronic) models, featured the OM 906 LA engine, delivering approximately 211 hp and 71 kgfm of torque (in the Classic version) or 231 hp and 83 kgfm of torque (in the Eletrônico variant).
The “bomba grande” (large pump) configurations are recognized for their simplicity and robustness, highly valued in the industry.
Transmission: Typically paired with manual transmissions, such as the Mercedes-Benz G 85-6, which provided optimal gear ratios for different loads and terrains.
Fuel Efficiency: For its class and time period, the 1620 was noted for its reasonable fuel consumption, further enhancing its appeal.
