Realism starter set
Seven free mods that make ETS2 sound, look and drive more like the real job, in a load order that works. No DLC needed.
If you've never used mods, start here. These seven mods change how the game feels rather than what's in it: better sounds and rain, real day length, believable traffic, heavier truck handling, and mirrors and a seat you can set up like a real driver.
They're all on Steam Workshop, so installing them is just Subscribe, then switching them on in the Mod Manager. None of them needs a DLC, and all of them are confirmed for the current game version.
DLCs you need: none, the base game is enough.
Load order
Top to bottom, as in the game's Mod Manager: the mod at the top wins when two change the same thing. Other mods you use go around these, following their own notes.
Gameplay & Physics
True Mirror FOV
by edkodeMakes ETS2's truck mirrors behave like real European ones: flat main mirrors for true distances, convex mirrors for blind spots.1.61FreeIts author asks for the very top of the list, above every other mod, to avoid crashes.
Graphics & WeatherRealistic Rain
by DarkcaptainSharper raindrops on the windscreen, more realistic road spray and dynamic rain and thunder sounds that change with the storm's intensity.1.61FreeHigh priority, above graphics, map and sound mods. Its author says it works with Sound Fixes Pack and should sit above it so its own rain sounds play.
SoundsSound Fixes Pack
by Drive SafelyThe most-subscribed sound mod for ETS2: hundreds of fixes and new sounds for tyres, rain, trains, air brakes, AI traffic and more, without touching your truck's engine.1.61FreeAbove AI traffic and map mods. If you'd rather hear Sound Fixes Pack's rain, swap it above Realistic Rain.
AI TrafficReal Traffic Density
by Cip & ErbkaiserTraffic based on real-world traffic counts: busier motorways, quieter nights, smarter traffic lights and AI that occasionally breaks the speed limit.1.61FreeAbove map mods. Leave the game's traffic density setting at 1.
Gameplay & PhysicsRealistic Truck Physics Mod
by Frkn64Frkn64's long-running physics mod: softer, more realistic suspension, cab movement and trailer behaviour, so trucks feel heavy and planted on the road.1.61FreeNo special position. Set truck, cabin, suspension and trailer stability to 100% in the gameplay settings.
Tips
- Add mods a few at a time and start a short job after each batch. If the game crashes, you'll know which batch caused it.
- Back up your profile (Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles) before changing a lot of mods at once.
- Switch off your truck's automatic rain-sensor wipers: they can't keep up with Realistic Rain's extra drops.
