The best ETS2 map mods for 1.61, and how to combine them
Map mods add the countries, cities and roads SCS hasn't made yet. They're also the mods most likely to crash your game if they're the wrong version or in the wrong order. This guide lists the map mods we've checked for ETS2 1.61, what each one needs, and how to stack them.
1. Which map mod should I pick?
Every map below is free, has an official download page, and has been confirmed for ETS2 1.61 by its authors.
| Map | Where | Type | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| ProMods Europe | All over Europe, plus the Middle East and North Africa as extras | Expands the normal map | Several SCS map DLCs |
| Poland Rebuilding | Central Poland | ProMods add-on | ProMods, 10 map DLCs |
| Silesia Rebuild | Southern Poland (Katowice) | ProMods add-on | ProMods, all map DLCs |
| RusMap | European Russia and Belarus | Expands the normal map | 9 map DLCs |
| SibirMap | The Urals, Siberia, Kazakhstan | Add-on to RusMap and others | RusMap and more, all map DLCs |
| Paris 1:1 | Paris at real scale | Standalone | All map DLCs |
| Hungary Map | Hungary | Standalone | A new profile |
New to map mods? Start with ProMods on a fresh profile. It's the biggest, the best maintained and the base for most other maps. Once that runs well, add one extra map at a time.
2. Add-on maps and standalone maps
There are two very different kinds of map mod, and mixing them up is the most common mistake:
- Add-on maps join up with the normal ETS2 world. ProMods, RusMap and Poland Rebuilding are like this: you keep driving the same map, just with more of it. You can stack several of them, as long as they're made to work together and the order is right.
- Standalone maps are a separate world. When you create a new profile you choose their map module instead of the normal Europe map. Paris 1:1 and Hungary Map work this way. They can't be combined with ProMods or with each other, and an existing profile won't load them.
Why aren't map mods on Steam Workshop? Big map mods are far larger than the Workshop is built for, and most of them depend on other mods. So their authors publish them on their own sites or on the SCS forum's Maps section. That's also why copies on random download sites are so common, and often outdated.
3. The maps, one by one
ProMods Europe
The map mod most players start with. ProMods adds thousands of kilometres of road across Europe and reworks many older SCS areas, and its team releases a new version soon after every game update. Version 2.84 is the one for 1.61. It only comes from promods.net. ProMods Europe →
Poland Rebuilding
A ProMods add-on that replaces Poland's oldest areas with detailed new cities and roads, from Szczecin and Gdańsk through Bydgoszcz and Warsaw to Zamość, plus a long list of new expressways. Version 3.0.1 is for 1.61 and ProMods 2.84. Poland Rebuilding →
Silesia Rebuild
Picks up where Poland Rebuilding stops, in the industrial south around Katowice, Gliwice and Tychy. It comes in two editions, with and without Poland Rebuilding, so download the one that matches your setup. Silesia Rebuild →
RusMap and SibirMap
RusMap adds a large part of European Russia and Belarus, and it's the base other Russian maps connect to. SibirMap continues east into the Urals, western Siberia and Kazakhstan, but it needs RusMap and several other free maps underneath it. Both have versions for 1.61.
Paris 1:1
A one-man project that rebuilds Paris at real scale, with streets as narrow and steep as the real ones. It's an unfinished draft and a separate world, but driving a truck up to the Sacré-Cœur is quite an experience. Paris 1:1 Map →
Hungary Map
Frank007's map of Hungary has been growing since 2013. It's a standalone world of about 70 towns, and version 0.9.41 for 1.61 came out on 14 October 2026. Hungary Map →
4. Which DLCs you need
Almost every serious map mod connects to roads that are in SCS's map DLCs, so it needs those DLCs installed. If one is missing, you get gaps, dead ends or a crash on loading.
- The usual list: Going East!, Scandinavia, Vive la France!, Italia, Beyond the Baltic Sea, Road to the Black Sea, Iberia, West Balkans, Greece and Nordic Horizons. Poland Rebuilding, SibirMap and Paris 1:1 need all of them.
- ProMods publishes its own list on its download page, and it changes from version to version. Check it before every update.
- Each of our map pages lists the DLCs under DLC needed.
Tip: a mod's list of required DLCs is a real requirement. "It might work without Iberia" usually means "it loads, then crashes when you drive near Spain".
5. Load order for map combos
In the Mod Manager, the mod higher in the active list wins when two mods change the same thing (the install guide explains this). For maps, these rules cover nearly every combo:
- Small mods on top. Traffic, sound, graphics and truck mods go above all your maps unless their author says otherwise.
- Add-ons above the map they extend. An add-on always sits above the map it's built on. For example, Poland Rebuilding goes above ProMods.
- The most specific map highest. When add-ons stack, the one covering the smallest area usually goes on top: Silesia Rebuild, then Poland Rebuilding, then ProMods.
- Each map's own files in the author's order. Big maps come as several files (definitions, models, map data). Keep them together, in the order the author gives.
Here's a working Polish combo for 1.61, top to bottom, as the authors describe it:
- Your small mods (traffic, sounds, trucks)
- Silesia Rebuild (the edition with Poland Rebuilding)
- Poland Rebuilding 3.0.1
- ProMods 2.84 files, in the order on the ProMods download page
The Russian maps follow the same idea: SibirMap goes on top of the maps it needs (RusMap and the others its forum thread lists), in the order given there. Bigger "combos" that join ProMods, the Russian maps and maps of Asia and Africa exist too, but they need connection fixes. Only use one that has been updated for 1.61, and follow its author's list exactly.
6. After a game update
Map mods are usually the last mods to be ready after an ETS2 update, because they depend on the game and on each other. ProMods normally comes first, then the add-ons that need it.
- Back up your profile before updating (see the install guide).
- On Steam you can stay on the previous game version from Properties → Betas until your maps catch up.
- Update every map in a combo together. One old map in an otherwise updated stack is enough to cause a crash.
7. Fixing crashes and missing roads
- Check the versions. Every map must match your game version, and add-ons must match the ProMods version they were made for.
- Check the DLCs. A missing DLC is the most common reason for a map crash.
- Check the order. Roads that end in mid-air or appear twice usually mean two maps are in the wrong order.
- Read the log.
game.log.txtinDocuments\Euro Truck Simulator 2often names the file that failed. - Strip it down. Switch off everything but the base map, then add maps back one at a time until it breaks.
- Standalone maps: make sure you chose that map's module when you created the profile. An existing Europe profile won't load them.
8. Quick questions
Can I add a map mod to my existing save?
For add-on maps like ProMods, usually yes, but back up your profile first. Your truck may be moved and some jobs cancelled. If you remove the map later, any garage you bought on its roads is lost. Standalone maps always need a new profile.
Does ProMods work in TruckersMP?
TruckersMP supports ProMods on dedicated servers only, and only the version it has approved, which may lag behind the newest one. Other map mods don't work in multiplayer.
Can I combine any map mods I like?
No. Only maps built to connect to each other can be stacked, and many need small connection fixes. Stick to combinations the authors describe, like the one above.
My game is slow with map mods. What can I do?
Big map combos need much more memory and longer loading. Close other programs, keep the game on an SSD, and lower view distance and shadows first. Very detailed maps such as Paris 1:1 are hard work even for strong PCs.
Where should I download map mods?
Only from the official page: the author's site or their SCS forum thread. Every map on EuroTruckSimulator2.uk links straight there. Re-uploads on download sites are often old or modified versions, and they're the source of many "broken map" problems.
